Simone and I travelled to Pretoria to see her Dr today. Most of her results were looking good, its only her White Cell Count that was low so he has put her on Neupogen for the next 5 days.
Haemoglobin 12.2 (12.1 - 16.3)
Platelets 209 (150 -450)
White Cell Count 1.8 (3.92 - 9.88)
Neutrophils 0.6
Infection count 2 (below 5)
Dr Brittain explained to us about the different donor types.
There are two types that we are looking at. Firstly the MUD Donor which is an unrelated Donor that can be anyone other than family.
The other is a HAPLA which is a related family donor, in our case this is her Dad.
The HAPLA donor process is much more expensive that is why they try and look over seas or on our local Bone Marrow Registry. Will keep you all updated as to where the Dr's are in the process.
Dr Fourie is the New Dr we met this week, he is her Radiologist and he will be setting up all her appointments in Benoni, at the Benoni Oncology Centre. Simone needs to do a three week course of radiation. It is a small dose of about 10 minutes a day.
And I'm sure you are all dying to see her fantastic Dr Brittain. He has been a fantastic and inspiring man towards Simone. Always a joke and a funny story to tell her about.
